Five tips to plan the perfect day trip to Schaumburg!

downtown schaumburg

Schaumburg is just a short drive from Chicago, one of the best cities in the nation. But as much as we love Chi-Town’s energy and character, sometimes you just need to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city, and simply relax, renew, and rejuvenate.

Sound like you? You’re in luck—Schaumburg is an excellent place to get away and play! There’s something for everyone, whether it’s for a solo excursion, romantic date night, shopping extravaganza, or an adventure for the whole family.

But before you go, it helps to have a plan. We’re here to help. Here are five tips to plan the perfect day trip to Schaumburg!

1.) Just go!

After a busy week at work, the temptation to just stay home and stream the day away is real. Or if you do go out, to just hit up your usual spots. We get it. So our #1 piece of advice is to just go! Schaumburg is only a 30 to 40-minute drive from Chicago, and just 45 minutes from Evanston, which if we’re being honest is less time than it takes to get to some places in Chicago! So surprise yourself, change up your routine, and take the short trip to Schaumburg. We bet it’ll be your new favorite place to visit!

2.) Make sure you stop at The Sculpture Park.

The Chicago Athenaeum was founded in 1988 and is America’s only independent museum of architecture and design. But why are we talking about a Chicago museum? Because The Chicago Athenaeum’s expansion is The International Sculpture Park in Schaumburg. No day trip is complete without visiting The Sculpture Park’s 20 acres of meadow and forest, featuring amazing art from both American and international sculptors. Whether it’s for a picnic or a pick-me-up, make sure visiting The Sculpture Park is on your itinerary.

3.) Take your kids to Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground.

One of the best parts about Schaumburg is how close the activities are. For instance, just a short, four-minute drive from The Sculpture Park is Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground. You read that right—just four minutes! It’s an awesome spot for parents with small children, with a little rock stream, a sand area, music zone, and jungle playhouse-style climbing area. Warning: After visiting Bison’s Bluff your kids will probably want to come back every day!

4.) Enjoy some retail therapy at Woodfield Mall.

Now it’s your turn to play! Just a six-minute drive from Bison’s Bluff, Woodfield Mall is home to main street department stores, high-street brands, and luxury retailers. Of course, you could just leave the kids at home and take your own shopping trip with friends. You’ve earned a little retail therapy, right? Schaumburg is a shopping destination for even cosmopolitan Chicagoans, and Woodfield Mall is a big reason why.

5.) Date night done right.

Have you worked up an appetite? You’re in luck. For families looking for a place that’s convenient, consistent, and reliable, there are plenty of national brand-name restaurants to choose from. But if Mom and Dad, or you and your special someone, want something more unique for your date night, Schaumburg has a burgeoning local food and bar scene, thanks in large part to our growing and diverse population. The only hard part? Picking just one restaurant!

There is so much more we could include, so to experience everything Schaumburg has to offer you’ll need to make more than one trip. Let us help! For more inspiration and information, please check out our visitor’s page!
