Schaumburg is just a short drive from Chicago, but we’re no bedroom community outside a big city metropolis. Schaumburg is vibrant and thriving with fun activities for all ages. Don’t know where to start? You’ve come to the right place!

Before we start, any “best places to visit” article about Schaumburg is inevitably going to come up short—after all, this is an article, not a book! Still, we believe this is a great starting-off point, whether it’s a day trip, weekend staycation, or week-long visit. Ready to start your Schaumburg adventure? Here are the top five must-see places to visit in Schaumburg!

1.) Make sure you stop at The International Sculpture Park

The International Sculpture Park is Schaumburg’s pride and joy, and no trip is complete without a stop here. An extension of The Chicago Athenaeum, America’s only independent museum of architecture and design, The Sculpture Park features 20 acres of beautiful meadow and forest filled with stunning art from international and American sculptors. Part museum. Part park. All Schaumburg!

2.) “Build” a delightful experience at LEGOLAND Discovery Center!

Pardon the pun, but you can literally “build” a day trip just around visiting LEGOLAND Discovery Center. If you grew up a fan of the colorful little building blocks (i.e. every person ever), there’s no better place in the world to share your childhood passion with your own children. Besides the blocks, there’s also a 4D cinema and VR experience, race car building and racing area, as well as a coffee shop (because mom and dad may need a caffeine boost). LEGOLAND is simply a great place to take your kids, and feel like a kid too!

3.) Spend a day on the water at Volkening Lake!

Fishing, walking, biking, boating, paddling, and picnicking—a visit to Volkening Lake is like several trips in one! Rent a two-man or four-person paddle boat (life jackets included), spot the abundance of local birds and wildlife, or simply enjoy a peaceful stroll along the wooded, lakeside trails. Ask any Schaumburg resident; there’s no better way to spend a sunny day than at Volkening Lake!

4.) No bluff, the Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground is a must for families!

Have younger children in tow? Then a trip to the Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground is a must! Your children can wade in a rock stream, build castles in a sandy area, and even create tunes using giant chimes and drums in the music zone. Or you can simply set your tykes loose in an awesome jungle-themed, playhouse-style climbing area, while you comfortably watch from the sitting area. Let them get all that energy out of their systems and your drive home will be much more relaxed!

5.) Venture into the forest, just outside the big city.

You won’t believe it, but just a short drive outside of Chicago is the Ned Brown Forest Preserve, also known as the Busse Woods, a 3,700-acre section of the Cook County Forest Preserve. While the Busse Woods extends beyond Schaumburg, one of its entry points is right here. Spot wildlife at the elk pasture, ride your bike or take a hike along 13 miles of paved tail, discover ancient upland forests, and enjoy the lake life on one of the largest fishing and boating waters in Cook County. As proud as we are of everything we’ve built, you just can’t beat mother nature’s handiwork!

These are just a few of the “must-see” sites in Schaumburg, but our best feature is our warm and welcoming community, so you and your family are always invited to visit!
